Wanna Train BJJ For A Long Time? Don't Make This Mistake...

advice mindset success tips training Mar 06, 2024

As someone who has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for decades, I've witnessed countless students come and go.
And now when I think about it, I think I've managed to pinpointed a crucial mistake that often leads to people quitting: comparing their journey to others'.

In the world of Jiu-Jitsu, progression is rarely ever exponential.
And so the temptation to measure your growth against your training partners becomes a tempting road - one often paved with frustration and disappointment.

In the early days of my training, I was guilty of this as well. I'd see my friends executing techniques with ease or advancing in rank quicker than me, and it was disheartening.
It took me some time to realize that BJJ is a personal journey, unique to each individual. The moment I embraced this, my perspective shifted. And my passion for the Gentle Art deepened.

The essence of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lies in self-improvement, both physically and mentally.
It's about mastering the art at your own pace, overcoming your limitations, and celebrating your achievements, no matter how small they may seem.

To those feeling discouraged or contemplating giving up, I urge you to reflect on why you started.
Remember, every grappler has faced challenges and setbacks. It's those who stay the course, focusing on their own journey without (much) comparison, who truly experience the full joy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Embrace your path, cherish the ups and downs, and let go of the need to compare.
Your journey in BJJ is yours alone, filled with personal victories and lessons that extend far beyond the mats.

Trust the process, and you'll find that the rewards of perseverance are...
Immeasurable.
