Should You REALLY Be Training Jiu-Jitsu So Much?
Mar 17, 2024Doing Jiu-Jitsu eats up a lot of time. It isn't just a matter of hours on the mat, but it also encompasses preparation for training, commute to and back from the gym, the mundane tasks like laundry, and so much more.
Factor in other commitments like work or school, family time, sleep, and meals...
And it's apparent that Jiu-Jitsu takes a lot of your time.
But is this time investment justified?
Before you start asking others what they think, you need to be honest with yourself.
Do you see the time you spend on Jiu-Jitsu as a sacrifice? After all, those hours would probably be spent on something else anyway.
The key is to make sure your Jiu-Jitsu goals match the time you're putting in.
If you dream of becoming a champ or opening your own gym, then spending lots of time on it makes sense – maybe even more than you're doing now!
On the flip side, if Jiu-Jitsu is just something you enjoy doing because it helps you relax or stay fit, and you've got good friends at the gym, then it's not really a sacrifice at all.
It's more like your happy place.
But if so much Jiu-Jitsu doesn't fit with your goals and makes you fall back in other areas of your life...
Then yeah, it might feel like you're sacrificing other things for it.
So, is it worth it? It's all about figuring out what matters most to you. It's important to prioritize the things that really count, like family and health.
But if skipping nights out or TV time means more Jiu-Jitsu, and that makes you happy, then maybe it's worth the sacrifice.
