Becoming Better In BJJ ISN'T Just About Training Hard...
Jan 21, 2024When it comes to "becoming better" in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the most often-heard piece of advice is - "train harder". Or to train more often, more hours in the week, do more drills/rolls...
But fulfilling your absolute potential is not just about training as hard as you possibly can.
More than that, it's about training smart.
Let's delve deeper into that.
TRAIN SMART & THINK
While the physical aspect of BJJ is undeniable, the mental component holds equal, if not more, significance.
That is to say - it's not just about how many rounds you can roll or the intensity of your training.
Rather, the real progress in BJJ comes from understanding the "why" and "how" of each technique.
This means taking the time to analyze your moves, understanding the mechanics behind a successful guard pass, or figuring out the flaws in your sweep attempts.
ANALYZE WHAT WENT WRONG
After a training session, instead of just figuring out how to tend to your sore muscles, begin to reflect on your performance.
What worked? What didn't? Why did that submission attempt fail? This kind of introspection is what transforms a good practitioner into a great one.
EMBRACE THE CHALLENGE
The mental aspect of BJJ is often the hardest.
It's easy to push yourself physically, but sitting down to dissect the intricacies of a failed technique requires patience and intellectual effort.
This is where true growth happens.
By embracing this challenge, you'll start training not just hard, but smart.
